University partners
GRIISIQ was initially founded based on a partnership between the University of Montreal's Faculty of Nursing and McGill University's School of Nursing. Following the establishment of a joint Ph.D. program, and with a mutual interest in the growing number of healthcare research partnerships, the two universities joined forces to invest in this innovative research platform. Today, the original founding members have been joined by the University of Sherbrooke's School of Nursing and Laval University's Faculty of Nursing, both of which offer a full doctoral programme.

Government partners
GRIISIQ benefits not only from infrastructure financial support from its original founders (Montreal and McGill universities), but also from three government funding agencies: the Quebec Health Research Fund (FRQ-S), Quebec's Department of Health and Social Services (MSSS), and the University of de Montreal's Hospital Centre (CHUM).
Quebec Health Research Fund (FRSQ)
In 2003, in response to a letter of intent from GRIISIQ, the FRSQ granted the Group an amount of $100,000. In 2004 the Fund, along with the Group's two other government partners, undertook to pay $500,000 over a two-year period. That grant was renewed in 2006 and, in 2008, the FRSQ provided support for the creation of GRIISIQ in the form of a grant of $2,000,000 extending over four years - i.e., until 2012.

Ad hoc partners
Quebec Nursing Research Foundation (FRESIQ)
The Quebec Nursing Research Foundation (FRESIQ) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the advancement of nursing and the continuous improvement of nursing care in Quebec by supporting research and the transfer of knowledge. Accordingly, the FRESIQ invests, in particular, in clinical research and the promotion of partnerships between the clinical and research communities.
Under its agreement with GRIISIQ, the Foundation gives Group researchers access to supplemental funds for use in enhancing their pilot or clinical-research projects.
Through its partnership with GRIISIQ, the FRESIQ promotes interuniversity synergy in nursing research, thereby encouraging greater clinician participation in such research and promoting the sharing of expertise required for the scientific process. This sharing is essential to the development, evaluation and improvement of nursing interventions.
